[Monday Motivation] Yes You Can

yes you canI have a challenge for you today.

No matter what stage of building your business you are in, it’s easy to get stuck, to feel overwhelmed and stressed by all the ways you are being stretched.

I talked about belief in last week’s article and how important it is. I know it’s easier said than done.

How do you increase belief in yourself?

One way is with positive self talk. Yep. Might seem hokey or silly but it’s quite powerful.

My challenge to you for today is to look at yourself in your bathroom mirror and say gently and lovingly to yourself, “Yes you can.”

No matter what thoughts rise or contradictions you hear from your inner critic, keep going.

Say it 10 times.

Say it with a smile.

Say it like you mean it.

Say it as if you were telling your best friend, yes you can!

Then say it to someone else today – a kid, spouse, friend.

Notice how good it feels to believe, really believe in them.

Then go back to the mirror and tell yourself again, “Yes you can.”

Why this particular challenge today?

Because after 17 years as a business owner and coaching hundreds of women since 2013 the biggest barrier I see to success and building profitable businesses is not talent, skill, technology or business know how, it’s lack of belief.

It’s as if someone is chanting the lyrics to Irving Berlin’s “Anything you can do” in your head.

“No you can’t.
Yes, I can.
No, you can’t.
Yes, I can.
No, you can’t.
Yes, I can, Yes, I can!”

Your voice of belief and faith has to be louder than the voice of doubt.

You can learn everything you need to know. You can hire people to do the parts you don’t know how to do. You can grow and get better and faster. You might even fall in love with sales and marketing like I did. Never saw that one coming.

Most importantly, you need to practice this mantra over and over again until your belief is greater than your fear.

YES YOU CAN.

Creatively yours,
Minette

P.S. If find that journaling or making art using collaged images helps me to move through fear and doubt back to a space of belief. I wish I could say that belief is permanently lodged in my psyche but it’s not. I cycle through emotions on a regular basis but I always come back to my conviction that I am doing good work. Come share your beliefs or your doubts in the FB group: Productivity for Creative Business Owners. Being held in community is one of the fastest ways to restore your belief in yourself. You don’t have to do this alone.
