You chose this crazy life of entrepreneurship.
So did I, seventeen years ago. At the time Conner was 3 and Maggie was 1. I couldn’t imagine going back to work full time and I was bored out of my mind staying home full time.
I was out for my walk one morning and saw a young mom. She’d just dropped off one kid at the local preschool, had one by the hand and a tiny one in the stroller.
It instantly took me back to those early days when I was just starting out as a business owner. I thought it would be easy. In fact, my mantra was: “How hard can it be?”
Kids, building a business, managing the house while my amazing husband worked full time, trying to find time for him when I was tired, stressed and doing too much… it was hard. Harder than I imagined. Harder than anything I had ever attempted before.
And it was worth it! Every painful step brought me to where I am today.
After 17 years of building businesses, I’m here to tell you it’s going to be harder than you think and that you, my creative friend, are up for the challenge.
One of the things that kept me going over the years, especially when the going got really rough, was staying connected to my core values. Connection has always been at the top of my core values list as well as family and integrity. Over the years when I felt stressed out, worried about the kids, or judging myself for being a bad mom and wife, I would return to my values and simply ask myself: where can I connect more? Where can I make time for…? Am I in integrity with myself?
What is most important to you? In your personal life and your business life?
Building a business has required me to ask so many hard questions over the years and to grow as a person. At the Path to Profit Academy, we believe that building business is an inside out process.
In fact, our business planning process with our clients starts with these simple questions: what is your unique brilliance, what are your core values and what is your big WHY?
Your answers will keep you going when the going is tough but they also form the core of your marketing messaging. They allow you to tell the story of YOU. Remember that people don’t buy products or services, they buy solutions from people they know, like, and trust.
Defining your core values and sharing them in your marketing are a powerful way to create more connection with your ideal clients.
At the top of the core values list for the Path to Profit Academy? Connection matters more than anything.
That’s why I am writing this series. Why I am inviting you to join me in our Facebook group. Why I care so deeply about YOUR success. Connection is my most closely held value.
