So, it looks like you’re stuck in a business rut. Are you bored with your business and following the same routine day after day? Are you finding that what used to work isn’t working anymore and you’re not sure what to try next?
There’s an exciting world of business opportunity out there with a lot to offer. Deep down you know you want to get out and take a big bite of it. You want your business to have a bigger impact. You want to see more money flowing in.
And yet, it may be a bit overwhelming, even scary at times, but you can’t let your life just pass you by. One of my personal fears is dying with regrets that I didn’t play full out, give my all and leave a positive legacy. If I stayed stuck in fear, I would never try anything at all. And I certainly have moments when fear arises and I freeze, not sure what to do next.
One of my mentors said that in order to be successful in our business, our commitment has to be bigger than our fear. Hearing this changed my life and my business. Once I got crystal clear about what I want to create and why it matters, I was able to fully commit to my own success. I am still afraid but my commitment IS greater than the fear.
It’s your turn or as Seth Godin says, “It’s always your turn.” It’s time to live those dreams, take a leap of faith, and get out of your comfort zone! I know, easier said than done.
How do you get started?
Here are four strategies to help you be all you can be, now and always (no regrets):
1. Decide what you want to do.
Put your fears aside and step outside of your comfort zone. You don’t have to take a wild leap off of a cliff, start with one small step just beyond the edges. Grab your journal and answer these prompts in writing:
If you could do anything without fear, money, or time being an issue, what would you choose?
Make a list of everything you would like to accomplish someday. It doesn’t matter how crazy or outrageous you may think it is, just write it down.
It also doesn’t matter if your list has three or thirty-three things listed. Just search your heart and your mind and write down what you would really like to do.
2. Have Faith in Yourself.
It’s important to have faith to see your journey through until the end, yet this may be one of the hardest qualities to develop. Remember how it feels to be stuck where you are with no excitement and no real purpose. You know things can be better than they are now, but how?
Faith is a journey, not a destination. Again, turn to your journal and do this activity to support you in having faith in your self.
Write a list of your accomplishments, the things you have done that you are most proud of! This might be winning awards, writing a book or raising great kids.
Then create an “I am” list. Make it beautiful, add colors, doodles, or images support your statements. Add as many I am statements as you can. If negative thoughts or beliefs come up, write the on a separate page. It’s important to acknowledge these thoughts and then to release them.
- I am kind.
- I am smart.
- I am compassionate.
- I am creative.
- I am punctual.
- I am great with numbers.
There really is no difference between you and others, except for the belief in the possibility for great success. You can be just like the successful leaders you admire; you just have to believe you can do it!
3. Don’t keep it a secret.
If you’re ashamed of how you’re feeling, you shouldn’t be. Many people find themselves in the same predicament. The only thing that should embarrass you is if you intentionally decide to stay in that rut! Do yourself a big favor and open up to someone you trust.
Whether that’s a parent, spouse, or business coach tell them that you’re ready to make a change in your life and they’ll be able support you throughout your journey. They’ll encourage you on the good days and cry with you on the bad days.
4. Take the first step.
It’s time to take that first leap of faith, the first step is always the hardest one. As much as you want to step outside the box and get out of this rut, nothing will happen without taking that first big step.
There is a scene in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade where Indiana Jones is gazing across a very deep chasm, wondering how to get to the other side, where he knows the treasure he is seeking is waiting for him. At one point he realizes that all he has to do is have faith and the path will appear. He closes his eyes and takes one step into the chasm. A bridge magically appears beneath his feet and safely crosses to the other side.
No matter how frightened you may be, you need to focus on the big picture and the treasure at the end of that rainbow. Muster up all the encouragement and support you can find and just do it. Once the first step is accomplished, it gets easier!
You’ll be glad you did it!
You deserve to be the best that you can possibly be, and deep down inside you know this. You’ll be so glad you took action – and you’ll be so proud of yourself when you celebrate at the finish line!
