6 New Year’s Tips To Help You Get From Where You Are To Where You Want To Be

Dr. Joe Vitale, motivational speaker and author, often says: “the fastest way to get where you want is to be happy with where you are.” Believe it or not, this mindset works! And yet, it’s challenging to adopt this mindset and to maintain it on a daily basis.

I love the quiet time between Winter Solstice and the dawn of the New Year. It’s a perfect time for soul searching, questioning and committing to what you want to be different in the coming year. I encourage you to take out your journal or sketchpad and start to craft the mindset you know you need in order to get from where you are to where you want to be.

One thing I know for sure, my most important work in 2018 is ME: my health and my relationship with myself are essential to my business success and I have been neglecting both.

All the action plans, to do lists and vision boards are meaningless if your mindset doesn’t match your vision. Trust me, nothing will change until you change. Yes, I am talking to myself here. This may be your most important work in the coming months – to concentrate on yourself and your journey.

Here are some tips that can help you become who you want to be right now:

1. Feel gratitude.

When you concentrate on the big picture, it’s easier to exhibit feelings of gratitude. When you’re grateful, you remain positive and appreciative of every joyful moment in life.

In our Artful Profit Planner, we make gratitude a part of our daily planning ritual. Gratitude keeps us anchored to the present moment and focused on what is working right now. Here’s another sweet printable from my daughter Maggie that has our essential daily planning tools on one page.

2. Be optimistic.

Some say that life is all about optimism. And it’s true! An optimistic attitude is one of the few things you need to succeed. I am definitely the glass is overflowing kind of girl. This optimism has carried me a long way!

* If you’re trying to achieve a concrete goal, optimism will help you accomplish it.
* If you’re trying to change your mindset, optimism will make the task easier.
* Optimism can be the driving force that keeps you going.

In writing this blog post I realize that some of my personal issues with my body are because I’ve lost my optimistic outlook that change is doable. Ugh! Sometimes I wonder how I can have so much faith and belief in parts of my life and none in others. Do you ever notice that about yourself?

3. Exhibit the traits you desire.

It was Gandhi who said that you should be the change you want to see in the world. With these wise words in mind, you can replace wanting with some bold action. With some persistence and perseverance, you can make it happen.

What is one area of your life where you want to be more confident? More visible? Perhaps you want to try doing more Facebook lives in 2018 or launch an online course or a live event? What would it look like to act as if you are the creative business leader already accomplishing this?

4. Adopt a prosperity mindset.

Take a moment to determine what prosperity means to you. Are you hoping for money, a fulfilling career, or a relationship that lasts a lifetime? Know what you want, then adopt the right mindset. Once you do, you’ve then set yourself in the right direction toward your goals.

It’s easiest to do this when you are crystal clear about the exact amount of money you want to make, down to the penny. Don’t wish for a million dollars if that feels unrealistic or impossible or like too much hard work. Maybe the truth is that making $5,000, $50,000 or $500,000 would be ideal. Get real about your numbers and then do everything you can to make it happen.

5. Find the silver lining.

As you go through life, you will no doubt realize that things are not always going to go your way. But even in tough times you need to keep your chin up. Instead of allowing negativity to consume your life, seek out the silver lining. This fresh attitude can be the difference between being held hostage and achieving your goals.

Yep, it’s hoakey, I know, but I truly believe that there is a gift and a lesson in every experience that we live through. If I hadn’t lived through the pain of owning a business that wasn’t successful, I wouldn’t be so passionate about the work I am doing today.

6. Take small steps.

When the place you’re going seems far away and unachievable, it’s important to break it down into small steps. Give yourself an achievable goal with a realistic time frame. Break that one down into smaller goals.

Hopefully you have been reading our series on goal setting this month or listening to our podcasts where we are repeating this in as many ways as we can: TAKE SMALL STEPS.

Break each of your goals down into tiny manageable steps and commit to taking a few steps each day. You will be amazed at the massive momentum this created. Plus you will gain confidence from watching yourself complete all the right steps. Use our Today’s Profit Plan printable to track the most important six tasks to do each day to move you closer to your dream!

You’re Already There

It’s a good idea to practice one of these tips at a time until you’ve incorporated them into your life. Perhaps you can spend a week perfecting one strategy and, then the next week, add another one to your repertoire while continuing with the first one. Soon enough, you’ll be a natural at all of them! Remember – small steps matter.

Once you choose a powerful and positive mindset, you’ll find that you’ve already achieved much of what you want.
