Everyone has the ability to be creative – including you! Once you learn how to unleash your inner creativity, you’ll be able to tap into it, no matter what else is going on in your life. You might even be amazed at what you’re really capable of! Creative expression is all about allowing your soul to speak to you and through you.
Over the past few years, I have discovered that connecting to my creativity is essential to my well-being and to my business success. Creative expression not only helps me to relieve the stress of growing my business but it also helps me to connect to new ideas, powerful beliefs and big dreams.
Discovering your inner creativity begins with looking inside yourself. If you read my blog on a regular basis, you know that creative expression is an essential part of my own life and what I help my clients to create. Tapping into our creativity can help us to connect quickly to our unconscious – getting us out of our heads and into our hearts and guts so that we can create new perspectives.
Creative expression is a powerful business planning tool. I am not talking about making Art to sell (although that is always an option!) I am talking about using creativity to connect with new ideas as well as to connect with your ideal clients to discover more about what they need and want from you.
Creativity can take many forms, no one form is better than another. And if it’s been years or even decades since you felt creative, go back to your childhood roots and invest in a coloring book and some crayons.
Some people write, draw, compose music, build sculptures, or paint. There are plenty of creative pursuits for you to explore and enjoy. Even redecorating your house, revitalizing your wardrobe, or experimenting in the kitchen can be a creative outlet for you. After all, someone has to try new things, or the world would never change. So let that person be you! Here are more ways to connect to your creativity.
4 Powerful Questions to Connect to Creative Expression
If you haven’t given much thought to your inner creativity, getting started can be the hardest part.
Here are some things to think about:
- What do you do for a living?
- What are your hobbies?
- If you could do anything what would you do?
- Who would you be if you weren’t worried about the judgment of others?
Ask yourself these questions – especially the last two – openly and honestly, and discover your answers. You just might be astonished about what you find out about yourself. Perhaps it’s time to take that hobby and turn it into a living. Maybe it’s time to shake off the idea of living for others and begin to live for yourself.
Today is a new day to be creative, and a new day to touch the hearts and minds of others with what you have to offer the world. Are you worthy or capable? Of course you are! Let your inner creativity come pouring out.
Once you’ve started to discover your creativity, practice and experiment with it:
- Make it a point to be creative every day.
- Try new ways to do things, even routine chores.
- Seek creative solutions to your challenges at work and home.
- Any time you do something differently or see something from a new perspective, you’re flexing your creativity. Celebrate!
Continue your creative expression by branching out into entirely new hobbies and activities that help you in your pursuit of original creativity. Try expressing yourself in music, dance, writing, painting, or even crafts or woodworking.
There are people who simply don’t like change. You might even know some of them. As your inner creativity comes out, these people may not support you. That’s okay, because it’s not their life to live. It’s not their race to run. Focus on what you feel in your heart and surround yourself with those who do support you.
Getting support from others can make a huge difference, but either way, you must be your own #1 fan! The best support comes from within, not from what others think is right or wrong for your life.
Connecting with creative expression will inspire you to do even more with your life. You can’t possibly imagine where your creativity can take you if you just let it out and enjoy it. It doesn’t have to be perfect – and you don’t have to be perfect – to bring great joy to yourself and to the world around you.
Use Soul Scribbles for Creative Expression
If you are feeling stuck, here’s a great way to get the creativity flowing. Get out a pen and paper and start drawing. Draw at random and see what comes out.
The images throughout this post are examples of soul scribbles I have created over the past couple of months.
Start by scribbling on the page and see what comes out of it. If you really want to randomize, close your eyes as you draw (but try to stay on the page!). You’ll start to see patterns or images, and these can offer great inspiration and ideas.
You can make it more interesting by drawing with your non-dominant hand. If you’re right-handed, draw with your left or vice versa. Try drawing with your feet or by holding the pen in your mouth.
Crayons are good because you can randomly pick out colors to make your scribble more interesting.
If you find yourself actually starting to draw something or create patterns, go with it. Let the pen or crayon travel across the page and produce spontaneous art.
Creative expression is one of the best ways I know how to help myself and others get unstuck, relax, see our lives or businesses with fresh eyes and get back into inspired action!
How will you be creative today?
